This tournament is hosted by the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Central New York. This tournament raises funds for a memorial scholarship in the name of Bill Leaf, Syracuse University Class of 2002, who was killed by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on I-81 in Syracuse in 2006. This tournament raises funds for the Bill Leaf Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded annually by the SU Alumni Club of CNY to a student who, like Bill, is from Central New York and who is studying broadcast journalism at SU's Newhouse School. In addition to being an SU graduate, Bill was a graduate of Henninger High School in Syracuse and was a reporter at WSYR at the time of his death.
The tournament also supports a memorial scholarship at Liverpool High School in the name of Samantha Reynolds, a Liverpool teen who was killed by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on a South Carolina highway in 2008. Samantha and her family were on their way to Disney World for spring vacation.
This fundraiser and tournament are in memory of Bill and Samantha and the countless lives lost in drunk-driving-related accidents each year.
